Does anyone have a taper/stretching kit they can send me as a present? I’m only looking to go to 5mm (9/16).

Well, our camping ‘trip’ didn’t last very long. Our packs were seriously heavy and we only managed just over five miles. But we both suffer from chronic fatigue so I think we did rather well :)

This is no way near as good as I pictured it in my head (does anything?) but I still think it turned out pretty well with my limited resources. I’m looking at gender and sex in my latest art project and decided to do this femme/masc portrait. I’m approaching this from a cisgender/queer perspective, focussing on the fact that there are feminine and masculine qualities in everyone and that doesn’t have to correlate with a persons’ gender, sex or sexuality. So! What have I done with my week?

WELL! I was stationed at Blacktoft Sands RSPB which is located at the beginning of the Humber estuary, where the rivers Ouse and Trent join.

Over the week I saw so many new birds that I don’t see down here in Cardiff or that I’ve never seen before. Snipe, curlew, shellduck, golden-eyed duck, lapwing, tree sparrows, a barn owl as well as beautiful marsh and hen harriers. I also saw two hares and a weasel.

I spent most of the time as a physical volunteer. As it’s winter and the birds aren’t nesting yet and now is the time for land management. I cut down willows and made log fences, cut down reeds and burnt them, built fences with wire and fence posts, I fixed a path using sand and a tamping tool. I only did one monitoring survey and there weren’t many birds to record but it was an interesting experience, I got to record it on the BTO website too which made me feel quite special.

It was an excellent experience that I really, really enjoyed; although now I ache like fuck. It’s free to be a RSPB residential volunteer and I’m definitely going to do it again.

The results of my first ever proper knitting creation. I’m so proud, I’ve never done tassels or properly swapped colours before.

I gave it to Wilyum as a Christmas present, even though he’s a Ravenclaw :P
