One Foot Before The Other

When I manage to finally move out into my own flat/house where I can have pets I know I’m getting a cat but I’m more inclined to thinking about getting a pig.

I’ve always wanted to get a pig as a pet and now it just so happens that you can get pigs that are small enough to live in a home. But… but part of me, the animal rights part of me might think it’s a bit of a double-standard. I mean, these pigs have been selectively bred to be that way. I can’t help thinking what happened to all the pigs in between stage 1 normal pig and stage 10 tiny pig. I know cats and dogs that we get in this day and age have all been modified somehow if by accident or by human intervention but I feel that the introduction of micro-pigs has somehow been forced.

I’d love to get more information on the subject. I mean, as these pigs aren’t really natural, is it possible that they’re not meant to live? I mean, certain breeds of cats have been bred to have small stumpy legs, this makes them cuter but more susceptible to joint and leg problems and obviously doesn’t allow them to jump and climb like a normal cat would. I’m wondering if the same is said for these micro-pigs. It just seems a bit of a vogue right now. Like it was after Finding Nemo and 101 Dalmatians. The amount of damage done to reefs and clown fish populations after Finding Nemo because everyone wanted a ‘nemo’ was disastrous.

I don’t want to buy into an industry that’s going to cause any unnecessary suffering or pain to an animal. Maybe by the time I come to buy my pig there will be some in a rescue centre. I know I’m going to buy rescue pets as much as I can.
