So, this one time I went away from my house for more than a day without a camera of any description. And that time coincided with yesterday, when Wales held a free open training session at the Millennium Stadium. Fortunately, girlfriend lent me a (very butch & manly aqua green) point-and-shoot camera because daingert taking pretty bad photos is better than taking no photos at all!

About thirteen thousand people showed up in the end, a lot of them with young, super-excited kids, so the atmosphere was amazing. As was the assortment of eighties rock, metal and early-‘noughties’ piano-rock that somebody brilliantly decided should play over the PA system all afternoon. That enthusiastic chap in red was reeling off bits of stadium trivia (like how much food an average matchday crowd eats; eight thousand hot dogs, something, something else and two hundred pies) in between interviews with Rhys Priestland, Sam Warburton and George North. While the fit players were training, Ryan Jones hobbled around the crowd with a microphone asking people questions (including the Adam Jones lookalike) while the medical staff fretted down on the pitch… then after the session Stephen Jones, Liam Williams, Justin Tipuric and a few other players who hadn’t been training were handing out posters and chatting with pretty much everyone on the way out. It was a pretty awesome event, especially considering how well organised and totally free it was! Ohh the Welsh are a wonderful lot.
